Below is information on how to register, as well as detailed information on our refund policy, age verification policy, accepted forms of payment, registration deadlines, the review letter process for league sports, transfers and more.

 6 Easy Ways to Register!

Choose a registration option below*.  Before registering for any program, please review all the information below.  As of January 1, 2015, now accepting registrations for all Clarkston Community Education programs.

  • Walk In into our office and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you!  We are located at 6483 Waldon Center Drive, in the lower level.
  • Drop In our after hours drop box, located on the parking lot side of Town Hall.  Download a registration form first!  Click on Forms and Flyers to find all registration forms.    
  • Mail In to 6483 Waldon Center Dr., Clarkston, MI 48346.  Download a registration form online first!  Click on Forms and Flyers to find all registration forms.     
  • Fax In to (248) 620-7454.  Download a registration form online first!  Click on Forms and Flyers to find all registration forms.  To be used by customers paying by VISA or MC only.  If you haven’t received an email receipt within 24 hours, please call to verify we’ve received your fax.
  • Phone In to (248) 625-8223.  To be used by customer paying by VISA or MC only for programs that do not require a specific registration form (which should be indicated in the program description).
  • Online.  Only available for some programs, indicated by the "mouse" icon in the Recreation Guide.  Customers MUST have an account set-up with us.  If you would like to set-up an account, email klarson@twp.independence.mi.us.  To register online, click SIGN IN at the top of the page and log in to your account.  

*All registrations not done in person will be processed after walk-ins.  All registrations are taken on a first come, first serve basis and will not be accepted at a class/program.

Age Verification Policy

We require a birth certificate or passport to be shown at the time of registration for children under 18 that are registering for a program.  This is to verify we have your child’s correct information from the first time your child enrolls in our programs.  We will only require you to show proof once.  We do not need to keep a copy on file.

 

Registration Deadline Policy

In order to provide you with quality programs, we have assigned registration deadlines to all programs.  The deadline is the official date that we will be able to confirm the status of the program.  If your registration is accepted after the registration deadline, a $10 administrative late fee will apply.  If the number of participants registered at the time of the deadline, do not meet the minimum required, the program may be cancelled and you will be issued a full refund.  In some cases, there are no refunds after the registration deadline, unless the Department cancels the program.

 

Payment Methods

Full payment is required at the time of registration.  No program openings will be held or saved for persons without payment.  We accept cash, personal checks, money orders, VISA and Mastercard.  Independence Township will charge a service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the Bank.  Check and Money Orders should be made payable to:  Independence Township.  Security Deposits on Facility Rentals must be in the form of a check.

 

Closing and Cancellation Procedures

Independence Township reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient registrations, school closings due to inclement weather, Holidays and vacations or conditions beyond our control.  Every attempt will be made to arrange make-up dates.  For program updates, call our Rain Out Hotline at (248) 625-4334.  For Aquatics programs, call (248) 625-1444.

 

Falsification of Information

Participants falsifying information will be dismissed from the program and no refund will be granted.

 

Non-Resident Policy

An Independence Township resident makes a significant contribution to the financing and operation of the Parks, Recreation & Seniors Department through taxes.  The taxes are paid whether or not the individual participants or uses the facilities of the Department.  The non-resident fees are intended to allocate to non-residents an equalized fee, so that they contribute to the overall financing of the Department on an equitable basis with the resident.

 

Resident Status Statement

Any participant who resides in or pays taxes to Independence Township, is considered a “resident”.  Resident verification may be requested.  A person who does not fit this description will be charged a non-resident fee.

 

Transfers

A $10 administrative fee will be charged to transfer between any activities, in addition to any difference in fees. All transfers must be done in person, unless payment is made by VISA or MC.  Transfers are only authorized providing space is available in the new activity. 

 

Waiting List Procedure

Unfortunately some programs have maximums assigned.  Waiting lists are a source of contact information and do not guarantee you’ll receive a call back.  You will receive a call back only if a space becomes available.  Sorry, special requests cannot be honored.  If you ask to have your name added to a waiting list for a program that is full, it:

Provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation.

Supplies us with names and phone numbers in case a new class/team is added.

Review Letter

Independence Township Parks,  Recreation & Seniors Department will accept Review Letters to CONSIDER allowing a child to move up or down in our Youth Sport Leagues.

Parks, Recreation & Seniors HIGHLY recommends parents register their child in the league that corresponds with their appropriate age. This will ensure a spot in our program and keeps teams equal and fair according to age.

To complete a review letter, download the Review Letter Form at www.itpr.org and return it by the review letter deadline.  Review Letters will not be accepted after the review letter deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Once Review Letters are accepted, the Review Board will review all letters and make the decision to allow your child to move up or down in our leagues.

Once decisions are made, you will be notified through a letter. Those children granted to move into a different league will not be charged an administrative transfer fee, but may have to pay a difference in league fee if applicable.  The Review Board’s decision is final and no protests will be allowed. Once you have received the decision in the mail you will be given at least 2 weeks to transfer your child into the approved league or ask for a refund.  Remember, no refunds after the registration deadline.

 

Refund Policies

The following policies and procedures have been established to ensure quality programming.

 

Unless the program was cancelled by the Parks, Recreation & Seniors Department, a $10 service fee will be withheld on all patron requested refunds.

Please note, in some cases, the program description will state that all patron requested refunds must be requested prior to the registration deadline.

No refunds can be issued for special events or one-day programs.  Sorry, no exceptions.

All refunds will be refunded in the form of an Account Credit, check, or your VISA or MC will be credited.  Items will be refunded in the way they were paid, unless you are requesting an Account Credit.  No cash refunds will be given.  Check refunds will be issued according to the Township Finance Department’s bill-paying schedule, which may take 4-6 weeks.  If the refund is less than $10, a credit will be posted to your account.  Account Credits will remain on the customer's account for five years from the date of the credit posting.

 

Classes-All refunds must be requested before the start of the third class meeting.  Refunds are prorated if requested after the first class or if other expenses (ie shirts, materials) are involved.  There are no refunds after the registration deadline for classes that meet one or two times (i.e. CPR classes, safety classes).

 

Day Camp/Beach and Swim Lessons-After the registration deadline, absolutely no refunds or credits will be given.  All patron requested transfers must be done prior to the registration deadline.  There are no refunds or replacements on lost or stolen Before/After Care cards, nor Beach Passes.  There are no refunds for cancellations made due to conditions beyond our control.

 

Team/League Sports-After the regular registration deadline, absolutely no refunds or credits will be given for any youth or adult team sport.

 

Facility Rentals-

If the cancellation/transfer request by the applicant occurs more than fourteen days (14) prior to the event: All transfers are subject to a $20 administrative fee, pending the new date is available.  All transfers must be done in person, unless payment is made by VISA or Mastercard.  Call (248) 625-8223 for more information.  In the case of a refund, the rental fee minus $20 will be refunded along with the deposit.  See above for details.

If the cancellation/transfer request by the applicant occurs less than fourteen days (14) prior to the event: The entire rental fee is forfeited and the deposit will be returned in full, regardless of the reason for the cancellation, including inclement weather.  Absolutely no transfers.  Regular policies regarding return of security deposit still apply.

Class Deadlines-To help serve our customers better, we have a class deadline policy.  In order to confirm the status of a class/program, a deadline is listed with each class description.  If space still exists and registering after the registration deadline, a $10 late fee will apply.
