The Mission of Independence Township Senior Center is to enable older adults, ages 50+, in Independence Township and surrounding communities to participate in services and programs that promote wellness, independence, safety and enrichment.

HOURS:  The Senior Center Office is open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, except on the Holidays.  We are located in Clintonwood Park.  If you are trying to reach us during non-office hours, please leave a message on our voicemail.

MEMBERSHIPS:  All new members will receive a bi-monthly newsletter with their membership along with a onetime welcome package that includes a $5.00 coupon that can be used towards a class or program. Your membership also entitles you to discounts on all of our programs and classes. By participating in a couple of programs you membership will pay for itself. All of our programs and trips reflect member and non-member fees.


Transportation-If you are in need of dependable, low cost transportation, or if you need a van with a handicap lift, we may be able to assist you. Cost is $3 each way or $6 round trip.  Please see the guidelines, procedures and medical form by clicking here.

Meals on Wheels-Homebound meals are available seven days a week to older adults 60+ and to people with disabilities living in Independence Township or Clarkston.  Please call 248-625-8231 for details.  This program is provided by the Older Persons’ Commission through a government grant with the Area Agency on Aging 1B.

Site Lunches at Noon-We are serving a made-from-scratch lunch prepared by our senior center staff every Thursday unless indicated on the schedule. The cost is $7.00 per person payable that day. Call the Center to make a reservation for lunch no later than 5:00 PM on the Monday preceding the scheduled date.  

Outreach-For information on housing for seniors, in-home care, Medicare, prescription coverage including the new Medicare medical plans, health care and other services for older adults, call or email Patricia at 248-625-8231 Ext 17.  She will also do home visits, if requested. 

Bereavement Group-Informal sharing meeting with a Bereavement Counselor from Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home.  This free support group for men and women of all ages meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Carriage House.  For information, call Jenni at 248-625-5231.

Legal Consultation-Attorney Dana Wilson provides private consultations at the senior center on the fourth Monday of the month at 1:00 PM.  If you need assistance with legal problems or if you have legal questions, call the center for a 15-20 minute appointment.   

Low Vision Support Group-This group meets monthly for socialization, education, and to promote improvements in our community for the visually impaired.  Call the senior center to make a reservation for the next meeting and lunch.

Minor Home Repair Program-The Township has funds available to help low income households to complete repairs of no more than $5,000 for a single residence.  The repairs can include replacing furnaces, water heaters, roofs, gutters, and many other minor repairs.  Call or email Theresa at (248) 625-8231 to see if you qualify for this program.

Visiting Podiatrist-Dr. Bruce Tabak, D.P.M., comes to the Senior Center every 4 to 6 weeks and provides basic nail care, trimming, treatment of ingrown nails, calluses, corns, and pressure sores plus more complicated problems.  HMO's are not accepted.  If you are unsure of your insurance coverage, call Dr. Tabak's office at (248)628-1880.  Call the Activity Center to schedule an appointment time.
